The Best Golf Tournaments of 2020
With every season, come new tournaments. In football, you see every season of the Champions League, where the best teams from the top leagues in Europe meet and fight for the title of champion, while sports fans scramble for their sports betting bonuses. Every season of the NBA sees the best teams compete for the title of champion.
And with golf, every season brings about a lot of tournaments. Golf tournaments are actually tours, just like tennis has. They are all scheduled in advance and players need to qualify for them through other tournaments. The PGA tour tournaments are the larger tournaments, while the lesser ones can be used to acquire points and the necessary rank to be eligible to participate. Here are the best tournaments to watch in 2020.
2020 Masters Tournament
The Masters tournament is a Major tournament in golf, one of the four major ones. It is the first major tournament of the year. It takes place in April of 2020. It is hosted by the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Major tournament wins are worth 600 points. The prize pool is around 12 million dollars. Like every major tournament, you can expect the players to try harder, not only for the prize money and the ranking, but the prestige, as well. The list of invited golfers includes past champions of various tournaments, and then, of course, the rankings to fill in the gaps.
WGC-Mexico Championship
WGC tournaments are a tiny bit below the majors, but every bit as important. Their prize pools are also huge, in the case of the Mexico Championship, around 10 million dollars. They are also worth quite a lot of points, 550 each. There are four of them every year. The Mexico Championship is held by the Club de Golf Chapultepec, in Naucalpan, Mexico. It is a bit to the west of the capital. This event is held in february, prior to the major.
The Players Championship
This tournament is often considered the fifth major, due to its prestige and prize pool. It actually has the highest prize pool, sitting comfortably at 12.5 million dollars. It is hosted by TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The list of invited players includes players who won various previous championships, as well as the PGA ranking list. The tournament is prestigious and is counted as a major victory, even though it is not a major tournament, like the remaining three are.
2020 U.S. Open – PGA Championship and British Open Championship
These are the remaining three major tournaments of the year. The PGA Championship will be held in California, in the month of May, by the TPC Harding Park, in San Francisco. The U.S. Open will be held in New York, in June, hosted by the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York. The British Open will be held in England, obviously. It will take place in July, in the Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, England. Each of these three is worth 600 points and is an event to be watched by golf fans, new ones and those already familiar with golf.
These are the best golf tournaments you can look forward to in 2020. As always, the majors, the WGC tournaments and the Players Championship are the tournaments to keep an eye on.
